This bar’s distinctive shape recalls the whale shark, elevated by light oak interiors and a softly lit neutral palette. Fish scale-like timber shingles surround the kitchen, while a smooth, iridescent stucco inhabits the body of the whale, emphasising the marine iconography. The Whale Bar’s focus is a ceiling mural created using curved oak panels, the local craft of pyrography and a henna style drawing, typically applied to female’s hands and feet. The installation also depicts a paradise of corals, fish and plankton. Underneath the mural is the main bar area, the form of which is inspired by a sea turtle.
