Shangri-La Kunming emerged as the standout project of AHEAD Asia 2026, taking home five awards including the top honour of regional Hotel of the Year.
Conceived by Shangri-La Group, with architecture by ECADI and interiors by AvroKO, the property also triumphed in Hotel Newbuild, Lobby, Guestrooms and Bar. Its richly layered interiors draw upon the colour, craft and cultural narratives of Yunnan, carrying a distinctive sense of place from the wider guest experience into its most intimate details.
The judges praised its “successful marriage of boldness and restraint”, with a richness of pattern, material and colour harmonised through exquisite detailing. The guestrooms were noted for their “inventive take on operational details”, while the lobby’s innovative programming and balance of intimate moments with grand impressions further demonstrated the consistency of the project’s vision.
