Layering contemporary hospitality into a significant heritage setting, The Lands by Capella in Sydney was named Event Spaces winner at AHEAD Asia 2026.
Created by Pontiac Land Group and Capella Hotels and Resorts, with Hassell Studio and Purcell Architects, the destination occupies the heritage-listed Department of Lands building adjacent to Capella Sydney. Its second floor offers five light-filled and interconnected venues, ranging from intimate rooms for private dining and exhibitions to the Capella Ballroom.
The panel applauded the “successful layering of new interior architecture into old”, describing the result as sensitive, sophisticated and timeless. Its residential character was considered a welcome departure from conventional hotel event spaces, creating “a unique and memorable experience” across a varied sequence of rooms.
