1 Hotel Mayfair, London, UK

Accessibility

Redefining inclusive luxury in the capital, 1 Hotel Mayfair receives the Accessibility award at AHEAD Europe 2025 ♿️

A complete transformation of a former Holiday Inn, 1 Hotel Mayfair by AHM Architects, GA Design, Studio Moren and Dione Tarles reimagines an existing structure as a calm, contemporary landmark shaped by sustainability, craft and intuitive design. Its refined, pared-back aesthetic is expressed through natural materials, raw-edged stone fins and soft planting, with a light-filled lobby. Retaining over 80% of the original structure and sourcing materials locally, the project sets a new standard for adaptive reuse.

Accessibility has been integrated from the outset. Step-free access, wide entrance doors and a threshold-free lobby create an inclusive arrival, supported by lowered check-in desks, Braille signage and accessible routes throughout all restaurants, bars, meeting rooms and public spaces. Lifts serve every level, including the gym and spa. Accessible guestrooms feature roll-in showers, grab bars, low-level fittings, accessible peepholes and audiovisual door alerts, with closed-caption TVs available, too, showing how accessibility can be seamlessly embedded within a contemporary luxury hotel.
