Emerging almost organically from the rugged terrain of Kenya's Laikipia region, &Beyond Suyian Lodge won the Landscaping & Outdoor Spaces award at AHEAD MEA 2026 for its extraordinary connection to the surrounding wilderness.
Set within the dramatic Suyian Conservancy, the lodge was conceived by Fox Browne Creative in collaboration with Nicholas Plewman Architects & Associates and Michaelis Boyd Associates. Conceived as an extension of the landscape itself, the design is inspired by ancient rock formations and undulating ridgelines, with suites scattered across the terrain like clusters of weathered boulders, with native vegetation to weaving between them. Winding pathways framed by locally sourced stones lead to a central circular bar, while outdoor gathering spaces invite guests to experience the wilderness from different perspectives.
The judges celebrated the property's seamless integration with its surroundings, describing it as “an outstanding lodge that creates a warm, immersive and authentic guest experience”. Its “organic architecture” was particularly praised for its harmonious blend with the landscape, demonstrating how sensitive design can elevate the experience of an extraordinary natural setting.
